Your Right to Health Insurance Coverage between coverage

Cobra health insurance provides participants with a bridge level of coverage.  If you leave your job that had health insurance, but do not have health insurance right away from a new job, or you are unemployed for some time, Cobra health insurance can help cover you, and perhaps your family, until the time when you do get insurance coverage.  It is meant to be a short term type of insurance.  For those who lose their insurance without coverage right away, this can be very helpful.

In order to receive Cobra health insurance, you, the person that will be insured, will need to pay for individual health insurance plus the cost of your insurance coverage from your employer (you'll pay as much as your employer paid for you, plus individual coverage amounts.)  This does make this type of insurance expensive, but it can be a lifesaving tool for many people.  It is meant to be a stop gap or a safety net for those who find themselves in worrisome situations such as divorce, unemployment or even death.  Click to Apply

Some events are considered qualifying events which will give you up to 36 months of Cobra health insurance coverage for your dependents.  This includes a voluntary or involuntary loss of employment (though there are some situations that do not qualify.)  Other qualifications include coverage for dependents if you die, are legally separated or divorced or if you become eligible for Medicare.

Do realize that if your employer faces an increase in their group health insurance coverage, they are legally allowed to drop your insurance coverage.  If the employer goes out of business, you will not be eligible for Cobra health insurance.  Also, if you move outside the plan's area, you also lose your coverage.  For those who are eligible for Social Security disability benefits, you'll receive up to 29 months of Cobra health insurance coverage, under certain circumstances.

If you are in any of these situations, you may be eligible for Cobra health insurance.  This type of insurance may cost you, but it is also highly effective tool especially for those that may have an existing health condition as you will be allowed to move into other individual health plans that you otherwise would not be able to do.  This is assuming that you have your health insurance from your employer then move to Cobra health insurance and finally into a new individual plan without any delay in coverage.
